even blown away from the foundation stones.

PRAIRIE PALMS

RURAL LANDSCAPE

ACRYLIC ON WOOD PANEL - 7" X 5" - (c)BRUCEDOCKER,2010

It's getting to that time of year now when temperatures are
beginning to reach up near 100 degrees. Even cattle are
looking to cool off in the shade and in ponds if
they have access to one. If you like swimming in ponds,
as I did as a kid you should avoid the ones the cows use.

AFRICAN WILDLIFE

ACRYLIC ON WOOD PANEL - 7" X 5" - (C)BRUCEDOCKER,2010

When I was 5 or 6 years old it was
allowed to feed the giraffes at the zoo. There was a particular
elevated vantage spot where I could stand face to face
with them and give them peanuts one at a time from
my open hand. It was cool and scary at the same time.
That enormous gray tongue would snake down and
trade that peanut for drool. (the cameleopard)

COUNTY ROAD 418

Acrylic - 7" x 5" - (C)BruceDocker,2007

In many rural areas of Kansas the land is sectioned off into 1 mile squares. With that the trees in the landscape angle off at 90 degrees to one another and the roads may be followed to the horizon

It's kind of humorous how wary cows can be.
Cars drive by all day long,

BETWEEN THEM, A PLAN WAS HATCHED

RURAL LANDSCAPE

Acrylic on wood panel - 5" x 7" - (C)BruceDocker,2009

A nice bit of weather got me out in the country to mingle
with large domestic creatures. It's always good to paint them,
but you know you can't trust them.

RURAL LANDSCAPE WITH OLD CAR

Acrylic on wood panel - 7" x 5" - (C)BruceDocker,2009

This old truck was sitting, crumbling in a field.
The late day sun gave a nice contrast to the red rust,
dirt and the faded green paint.

I was driving through a rural area of northeastern Kansas, south of Kansas City. The fields were planted right up to the edge of the road. It seemed the plants might grow out onto the blacktop and converge in the middle.

LIVING SHADOWS OF THE PRAIRIE OASIS

Acrylic on plywood - 5x7" - (C)BruceDocker,2008

SOLD

During the heat of the day, cattle gather together in ponds and under hedge rows to stay cool. Though you don't think of cows as being camouflaged, they do tend to disappear into the dark shadows. Their individuality blurs into a larger unified mass that gives bulk to the shadow.

My most abstract work to date, but it is still figurative in my mind. The scene is my backyard, of course. The horizontal ribbon of yellow is the fence.
